still looking for NYE plans?

Here are some last minute NYE ideas that are not sold out, will be fun, and will be easy to get to even in bad weather.  Also- these are no gimmicks types of NYE events:

First Up: DJ TMY @ Vinoteca
I'll be spinning in the upstairs lounge from 11:00pm-3:00am at Vinoteca (11th and U Street NW) on NYE. I stopped by there today and the place is going to be really cool.  Tickets are normally $75- but if you book through me, I can get you a special price of $50 for full open bar, complimentary champagne all nite, and a midnight snack buffet!  There are also other tickets available for a full-course meal starting earlier in the nite if you're into that sort of thing.

Second Up: Chris Burns @ Science Club
Science Club is a really cool place to DJ and they have awesome vegetarian food.  Chris Burns- one of DC's best- is hosting a crew of DJs here this NYE.  The nite features a no cover or a $25 open bar special- not a bad deal!

Next Up: NYE @ Duplex Diner
I often like to retreat to the Duplex during big going out nites in DC- it's a guarantee for all locals, no lameness fun.  Aaron Riggins and I think my boy from Indy Drew Anderson will be DJing.  Not sure who else though, but ... SHhhh.. I may be making a surprise appearance here at some point in the nite- so look out for that too!

Last Up: SHIFT: The End is NYE @ Cobalt

This party is always super fun, the music is always fun to dance to, and tickets are only $10!  DJ MAJR (Mickey Adolphson and Aaron Riggins) will be heading this one up- at $10, this could easily be a party you start your night off at or end up at!

forget NYE, what are your January 2nd plans?

If you didn't get BYT tickets before they sold out haven't figured out what you're doing for New Year's Eve yet, well.. you're out of luck (actually I'll be making a post later about fun last minute NYE ideas, including an event I'm DJing at Vinoteca).

But with all the discussion about NYE, many have overlooked the numerous parties going on this Saturday, January 2nd.  You'll either have to make some tough choices or go for a marathon night.  I vote the latter.

First Up: Homo/Sonic @ The Black Cat
The boys from The New Gay, Zach and Michael, continue their monthly and legendary party Homo/Sonic this Saturday, and will joined by DJ Natty Boom.  Natty Boom is out of the Anthology of Booty DJ Crew and hosts the Backdoor party at the 9:30 Club Backbar.  Homo/Sonic can also boast of being the first queer indie dance party in DC in 2010, although I bet BYT's NYE party will be pretty gay too. Next Up: KIDS @ DC9
A bunch of us gays were at the last Kids party, and we were dancing our faces off.  My girl Lil' El hosts this all 90s Hip Hop party once a month with DJs Steve Starks,  Nacey, and Jackie O.  DC9 is also right next to Nellie's if you need an excuse to stop by Kids.  But just to warn you, you will end up spending most of your night here.

Last Up: CODE @ EFN Lounge

CODE is a Gear, Rubber, Skin, Uniform or Leather Dress Code Party at EFN Lounge (1318 9th St NW).  My boy Shea Van Horn, who does Maison with me as well as Mixtape and Raw, will be DJing January's CODE party.  This party sounds crazy: open bar from 9-10PM plus tons of guys in gear doing demos and shit.  You can also find me DJing here for the Wet & Wild party on January 13th.

DJing for @LeRoyRap in IOWA at the River Music Experience

On Festivus I had the honor to DJ for my boys Le Roy at the River Music Experience in Davenport, Iowa right along the Mississippi River.  It was my first time DJing at home and for Le Roy- a comedic rap group from my hometown.   They started making music back when we were in high school together, but only recently started doing live shows.  Hopefully we can bring them out to DC soon- these guys are not only hilarious, they're super talented.

Maison The Recap:

Well- Last night was very fun and interesting.  Maison was truly a mixed crowd last nite, something I think DC needs more of!  The Napoleon regulars and the Maison boys truly did mesh well and the vibe was great.  The music was cool if I do say so myself.  I think Shea and I traded places last nite- he played some pretty heavy French house, and I was playing more down-tempo French nu-disco.  It was fun!  Thanks to Napoleon Bistro Lounge for having us (sorry about the shirtless boy (yeah, just one), the broken mirror, and the near fight? i dunno it got crazy).  We'll try and tame those straight boys next time!

whew- it's already the 10th of December- time flies when you're mixing beats.  Here's a preview of some awesome parties going on this weekend:

TONITE (THURSDAY): Peach Pit is back for it's 3rd party at Dahlak (1771 U Street NW)

Matt Bailer and Robert Bozick (two of my favs) will throw down some hot tunes exclusively from the 1990s.  Weird to think we're just about to end the next decade, the 2000s (is that what we're calling it?)

If you've never been, Peach Pit is a really fun and intimate affair: awesome throw backs, awesome dance moves, and awesome people.

Definitely check this party out!

it's chro-me-oh-oh-oh-oh-oooohh

i give chromeo lots of credit. i think they single-handedly opened up an entire world of funk-dance-retro-disco that i didn't know still existed when i first heard "needy girl" in 2004.  it's one of those tracks i still listen to and still play when i DJ.  all of their music is so fun and there have been so many amazing remixes of and by them.  here's the new video for "night by night."  i can't wait for the new album!  and look at Dave 1's dance moves in the video- i've always thought he was super cute and his voice is very very sexy- nice to see him bust a move (although i suspect there may have been a double used for some of the shots... what do you think?)
