Tuesdays Tracks [2/16]

I'm instituting a new blog feature that will describe the tracks I'm listening to that day.  Mostly to prove I don't listen solely to house music, partly to share more music with folks.

Here are todays tracks:

Grizzly Bear- Too Little Too Late (Jo Jo Cover)- if you don't remember the original Jo Jo song (came out when she was like 13), you'll barely recognize that this song is a cover- but a great track nonetheless by the brilliant Grizzly Bear.  "You say you dream of my face, but you don't like me, you just like the chase."

Luther Vandross- Never Too Much (Odahl K-Love Remix)- you've probably heard me play this track before when I DJ.  Gahd Luther was such a kind and sad soul.  I particularly love this Odahl remix because it doesn't lose the dire yearning and sadness of Luther's original track, yet it puts an upbeat disco beat on top.  "Oh my love.  A thousand kisses from you is never too much.  I just don't wanna stop.  Oh my love.  A million days in your arms is never too much."

Notorious B.I.G.- Juicy- Dude, whenever you're down, there's nothing like Biggy to bring you right back up.  "You know very well.. who you are.  Don't let 'em hold you down.  Reach for the stars..."

Dragonette- Pick Up The Phone (Beaumont Remix)- This song and its plethora of remixes are all over the internets, but this mix is perhaps my favorite (probs b/c it is a French remixer).  But I love how this song both captures an eager desire and a grand vision of what could be.  More often than not such a strong plea, as the one in PUTP, could come off as pathetic and naive, but this song makes you believe in her effort to go out on a limb.  It's something I admire. "Pick up the phone, pick up the phone.  Congratulations I'm having visions of us Breaking everything on our way outta town.  We're going places you've never dreamed of."

WADDUP WEDNESDAY

People in DC are such babies- the weather has to be pristine in order for them to go out.  As a DJ/party thrower- this can be very frustrating.  There are sooo many good parties going on Friday and Saturday, and I hope people grow a pair and show up.

If you're not one of those people, then Wednesday and Thursday have turned into this weeks Friday and Saturday.

Here's one of my favorite Wednesday parties that I think you should definitely check out.  My hommie Lil' El DJs at Science Club every Wednesday and invites a guest DJ along- this week Doc Rok is up.  Happy Hour allll night long- check it out!  AND a throw in an mp3 at the end

brief grammy recap

all i have to say to anyone who doubts lady gaga's gender identification is take a look at this:
Again the grammy's were pretty boring except for Lady Gaga's opening performance with Sir Elton John.  I kinda wish she would have done her opening number to something other than Poker Face, but her follow up duet with Elton was superb.  It was definitely a cool take on one of my fave's- "Your Song."

Another leading lady tried to get on stage with a legend, but failed miserably.  Watching Taylor Swift try to "sing" with Stevie Nicks was almost as bad as when her ex BF's band the Jonas Brothers tried to perform with Stevie Wonder.  She went on to win album of the year.  Lame.  I've never seen the gays turn so quickly on someone before in my life.  It was pretty comical.  However, there's no need to fret, gays.  Gaga proved she'll be around for a lot longer.

The other highlight for me was when the Black Eyed Peas proved once and for all that they are the biggest pieces of shit garbage that has ever made "music."  OH! and I didn't know that Pink was so into watersports?  She gave everyone in the audience some pink showers :)

Lady Gaga- Bad Romance (Grum Remix)
