Rock The Boat Pics + Super Smash Bros.

Rock the Boat was a blast on Saturday! Lots of Michael. Lots of dancing. Lots of questionable "straight" guys. One was a dead-ringer for the hot guy from Glee. Twass fun. Special thanks to Jake and everyone at Wake Up and Dream for having me. Here are some pics and I'll throw it a nice little jam at the end for your aural pleasure.

Miike Snow!

Sorry blogging has been slow- last weekend was crazy w/ 3 DJ gigs and work has been nuts. Michael has kinda taken over all forms of media however, and I didn't want to compete. But the blog must go on.
I had been meaning to blog about Miike Snow (Andrew Wyatt, Christian Karlsson, and Pontus Winnberg), which you may know by their work as Bloodshy & Avant. They produced for Britney, Kelis, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and Wyatt just co-produced Dan Merriweather's album w/ Mark Ronson. But now they have their own album which came out on May 12th and I'm digging it. His voice reminds me a little bit like Passion Pit's lead singer, but their music is a little more poppy and not as snyth-heavy, but still very dancey.

Click Here to stream and download their music- I especially like the Fake Blood Remix of Animals and Burial!

The King of Pop is Dead- I might cry... RIP Michael Jackson

i'm seriously kinda upset about this... the man was brilliant. needless to say, i'll be playing lots of michael this weekend. rest in peace, the king of pop.

Busy Weekend Schedule

Whew- there's a lot going on in the District this weekend. You'll have some decisions to make, and plenty of opportunities to come jam out w/ me.

THURSDAY

Poprocks at Duplex Diner!
I'll be filling in for Chris Tassa. Bozick and I are a deadly combo- lots of raving and I got my dancin' shoes ready for tonight

FRIDAY

CB RADIO
I'm back at the Diner w/ Bradley, which is always a blast! This party is starting a little bit earlier- like 8ish or so. I think it's someone's bday?

SATURDAY

Now this is where things get a little tricky. I'm DJ'ing on a boat for a charity event and for the children. Summer Camp's stage extravaganza Crack is at Town, and Shift is at Cobalt. There are a number of ways to do this- if you're feeling charitable, come rock out on the boat with me. If you've never seen Crack before- GO! It's hilarious and suburbia themed this time. And Shift is definitely a good way to end the night. AND DJ Lil'el is guest DJ'ing at Cobalt- which i think will be cool

So good luck navigating this weekend. Be safe and have fun.

whoa! MSTRKRFT + John Legend?! how did i miss this??

Apparently the first single on MSTRKRFT's new album is w/ John Legend and I somehow missed this. They were on Letterman last night and performed the new single called "Heartbreaker." It will DEFFF be played this weekend.

Rock the Boat Daily Throwback 6/24

Yo- if you haven't heard, I'm DJ'ing this Saturday ON A BOATTT! It's called Rock The Boat, and it supports my buddies' non-profit called Wake Up and Dream. I think I'm going to play Aaliyah's "Rock the Boat" and Andy Samberg and T-Pain's "I'm on a Boat" on loop the whole time. So you should come- proceeds are for the children!
Get your tickets quickly, fools! And this brings me to today's Daily Throwback, my favorite Aaliyah song (RIP), and her last video ever. I miss her everyday.

A special Poprocks at the Duplex Diner this Thursday!

So good news and bad news about Poprocks this Thursday.. Bad news first: Chris Tassa cannot DJ that night. However, the good news is that I'll be filling in! Bozick tells me our mission is to create a dancemosphere using "rebel rhythms, summer jams, and candy." Commence music (love) making.

An Award Tour Daily Throwback 6/23

If you never got into A Tribe Called Quest.. it's not too late. Do that, do that, do do that that that. Do that, do that, do do that that that!

Daily Throwback(s) 6/22

Sorry for the lapse in posting- weekends are tough! Happy Summer Solstice yesterday and Happy Icelandic Music Day? The Music Slut posted this today: Iceland names top 100 Icelandic albums. Lots of Sigur Ros and Bjork and Mum and some of my other Icelandic faves. Since I missed yesterday, I'll give both a Bjork and Sigur Ros track :)

Next I'll give you a classic Bjork song. She's just incredible. Elissa Otten (SETON Middle School wassup!) gave me a bunch of her cds back in the day and i've been hooked ever since.

La Roux performing at Town?!

Whoa- just caught this- La Roux is doing a tour of North America, and not only are the duo coming to DC- they'll be at Town on August 6th, a day before heading to Lollapalooza in Chicago! I think it should be cool- hopefully the gays hear more about la roux by then and get into it. I'll do my best to hype it up. Mysteriously tho, the event isn't up on the Town Website yet..

With E-603, I could give mash-ups a 2nd chance

I know I know.. Mash-Ups are OVER, but you know what at the end of the day it can be fun. Now I admit, I am constantly skipping over Girl Talk's tracks on my ipod when it comes up on shuffle. He albums were more of a constant explosion of song after song. E-603 takes more a cautious effort in his mixtapes, and he lets many loops play for a while. He's mastered the timing of the "start and stop" aspect in mash-ups. Definitely, give his sophomore album Torn Up a chance, and if you haven't heard Something For Everyone, grab a hold of that too. Like I said, Aural Pleasure..

AND YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE ALBUM ON HIS
MYSPACE FOR FREE OR GIVE WHAT YOU WANT
E-603 Torn Up

and he's kinda cute...

Daily Throwback 6/19

My friend landon reminded me of how good this song was. I can't believe I'm going to confess to this, but when the song "Pony" by Ginuwine came out in 1996, my AOL screen name was "ginndru," which naturally referred to my obsession with Ginuwine and Dru Hill. I was obsessed with the 1990's R&B movement. It's true.
Naturally, I do a stunning karaoke version of this song. Enjoy folks! Apparently he has newish music too?

I'm not sure if '94 counts as a Daily Throwback 6/18..

But i'm doing it anyways- if you've ever seen me DJ you may have noticed I almost always play "Girls & Boys" by Blur. I frickin' love this song. And I bring them up b/c Blur has been in lots of headlines lately, which makes me happy. First- it was announced that the members of New Order minus bassist Peter Hook have added Blur's bassist Alex James to form Bad Lieutenant. Should be HAWT!Secondly, Blur returned to the first place they had a show in 1988, The East Anglican Railway Museum, in Manchest and played a 2-hour set of all their classics. Apparently it was pretty amaze-balls. Without further ado......

And if that wasn't exciting news enough, our favorite new little brit, Little Boots, did a cover of a Blur song, In the End!

Southerngold (Santogold's Mixtape)

Terry Urban did an amazing mixtape album featuring Santogold (oops now it's Santigold) and some southern hip hop all stars. It's delicious- but Santigold's label threw a hissy fit- luckily it was leaked, and i'm gonna leak it to you again :)DOWNLOAD THIS ZIP FILE ASAP FOOOLS!

Daily Throwback 6/17

My friends from Mo-Town just reminded me that when we were in high school we totally went and met Vanilla Ice when he was doing a signing at Co-Op Records on the Ave. Look how awesome I look in this pic- mo town tennis shirt and a hawkeyes hat!- I must have been like 16 maybe. And you can see Vanilla Ice's armpit- pretty sweet! So Ice gets today's Throwback w/ GO NINJA GO NINJA GO!!!

Lupe's New Album!

Heard my first leak off of Lupe Fiasco's upcoming LP "We Are Lasers." The track is called "Shining Down" and features his favorite vocalist Matthew Santos. I'm liking it!

BTW- the skull picture at the top of the blog is from a picture I took and photoshop'd at Lupe's last tour when he was at the 9:30 Club back in like fall '08 or something. Definitely ready for some new music from him.

Oh- and I can't find the mp3 so you're going to have to stream it from hype and like it.

Daily Throwback 6/16

I'm going to start giving away a daily throwback jam from now on so I hope you enjoy. If you've ever seen me DJ you've probably come up to me and asked why it is that I play so much music that was made before I was born and I guess I don't have a good answer for you, other than I just do.

Finally found some Chillin' Remix!

I've heard 2 Wale/Gaga remixes for Chillin'. Nothing great so far... let me know if you have any better ones! Oh- and if you hadn't heard- I met Wale on Thursday afternoon in front of Oohs and Aahs. I invited him to come see me DJ at the Diner and told him the gays loved him ever since he did a song w/ Gaga. He said he couldn't go to a gay joint though. Oh well- I had to ask! He was chill though and glad he lives in my hood (for now at least).

Don't forget about to come see CB RADIO (DJ TMY AND BRADLEY) at the Duplex Diner tonight (18th and U) for a Pride Kick-Off celebration! I'll be mixing THE DIVANATOR live tonight and I got some other delicious surprises as well!

Here's a sneak peek at The Divanator's prequel, part x!

THE DIVANATOR MIXTAPE (Part I)

The first leg of my new mixtape, THE DIVANATOR, is now recorded and ready for download! It was inspired by all of the gays who request really cliche gay diva music when I DJ. I usually just laugh, and I sometimes feel bad about it. But in the spirit of Pride, I thought I would give back and grace your ears with this delicious DJ TMY's raved out mixtape of some of our favorite divas.

Chiddy Bang! They're Pretty Much Amazing

I heard another Chiddy Bang song today and had to find out what they're all about- basically they're this philly hip hop group that takes popular indie tracks and lays down some lyrics to them. Here's how they describe themselves:

"Chiddy Bang is a four piece hip-hop/electronica outlet from Philadelphia. Currently attending their first year of college, they posses a musical maturity that is far superior to the teen-pop cliche. Chiddy Bang blends hard hitting lyricism from front man Chidera “Proto” Anamege, original electronica afro-beat and jazz influenced production from keyboardist Noah Beresin and drummer Zach Sewall, and additional production and vocals from guitarist Pat Braz.”

Chiddy Bang have their own jams too which you should check out- but I'll share with you their MGMT and Passion Pit covers. Both are sweeeet! First year of college? damn- I'm loving how indie and hip hop are just moving closer and closer together

Chiddy Bang- Kids (MGMT Cover)
Chiddy Bang- Truth (Passion Pit Cover)

Daft Punk are still gods

Found this nice little mix of Daft Punk's Around the World going into LCD Soundsystem's Daft Punk is Playing at My House. Rumor has it LCD Soundsystem may have a new album in the works. HAWT. Think this little mix is gonna be perfect for the weekend.

MGMT official video for Kids

As per their tweet last night- MGMT released their music video for Kids at midnight! It's pretty cool- on their website they talked about how Kids is the first song they ever wrote- pretty cool. The video was a little overdue but worth the wait. Can't wait for some new music from them.

DC CHILLIN- PG CHILLIN

i'm on U street right now across from ben's chilli bowl and just saw the new "Chillin'" video for Wale and Lady Gaga- LOVE IT

Lady Gaga's got this whole M.I.A. thing going on which i think works for her. Hope she does more hip hop collabs in the future. Wale was in DC last night at the 9:30 Club but i couldn't go. Schucks- was anyone there? How was it? Wale's twats made it sound like there was some trash talking- he's a little sensitive though.

video out for "when loves takes over"!

Here's the David Guetta/Kelly Rowland video for summer anthem "When Love Take Over"- SCORE- really have the urge to throw a beach party now!

Oh and here's a Laidback Luke remix of the song- although I stick to my guns- the song is find in it's original form

Tone Loc released from hospital.. whewww

Tone Loc collapsed and apparently had a seizure from overheating at an outdoor concert in Florida, but has been released from the hospital. Whew. I had a moment of silence for him when i was guest DJ'ing on Saturday night and found out. Here's a good Peaches mix in his honor- may Tone live long and prosper.

Tone Loc- Wild Thing (Peaches Remix)

remember yacht? i'm struggling too

Well it's been a while since Yacht has done anything musically- but I just heard a new song called Psychic City from their upcoming album, See Mystery Lights due out July 28th. Not in love with the single, but it seems like a good preview of what might be on the rest of Yacht's new album- apparently it's a little more experimental but maintains a poppy side. I had to pull out my old school ipod to find some yacht stuff and I dug up some goodies.

Most people will probably remember "See a Penny (Pick it Up)" that was in the background of every MTV show known to man for a solid 2 years. Summer Song was also pretty popular. One of my favorite finds was a Yacht remix of Architecture in Helsinki's "Do the Whirlwind". Here are some tracks.

Frankmusik's new video for Confusion Girl

FINALLY- the Frankmusik full-length album will be coming out June 22nd and will include songs that came out over a year ago- but at least the production sounds TONS better- as evidenced by the music video for Confusion Girl

The Music Slut also released the dets on the tracklisting for the album titled "Complete Me." Looks like there will be a good mix of previously released tracks and some new ones. He looks darn adorable too- I can't believe he's not gay- although he does love the gays. I saw a feature of him in the newest Out Magazine.

Here's a good remix of Confusion Girl done by Don Diablo!

Frankmusik- Confusion Girl (Don Diablo Loves to Slowdance Remix)

pool boy party is officially cancelled

so apparently my inability to get lazy gays to pay $10 in southwest dc at a venue they've never been to at a pool party during a thunderstorm was deserving of giving me the AXX after only 1 try.

sorry to everyone who came to the event, was planning on coming to the event in the future, to the DJ's i lined-up to co-DJ with me, and to the MC's that were coming. i'm sad to see it go just as much as you. could have been really fun.

their loss- right?

i'll keep you updated on other events i have coming up- probably gonna go forward on my hip hop night now so i'll give you the dets when i got 'em.

this song seems fitting at the moment
En Vogue- Never Gonna Get it (My Lovin)

Colin Munroe- the Unsung Hero

I am loving on Colin Munroe so hard right now- the Toronto-based, self-proclaimed "music mutt" fuses some of my favorite genres together into a very, very fresh sound. His new Mixtape "The Unsung Hero" reminds me a lot of Phoenix's 2004 album "Alphabetical", his voice reminds me of a baritone Frankmusik, and his beats are straight hip hop.

Colin Munroe was Hip Hop Official's Artist of the Week back in January- right around when he came out with his mix of Kanye West's Flashing Lights called "I Want Those Flashing Lights." "Nye himself even put the song on his Glow in the Dark Mixtape! Check out the video HHO featured on Colin Munroe.

You can download the whole mixtape for free here:
Colin Munroe is The Unsung Hero - It's a preview of his upcoming album that has Wale, Dallas Austin (who kinda discovered him), Drake, and Blaqstarr among others. Here are some of my favorite tracks so far.

sorry for the gaga overload today.. but this is just hilarious

Paparazzi Mini-Movie/Remixes + True Blood Preview

I'm sure by now you have all seen the mini-movie Lady Gaga made for her new single "Paparazzi", which Perez Hilton premiered on Friday. It's pretty epic. Check out the video now and download 3 new Paparazzi remixes. My favorite is the Stuart Price one.

Lady Gaga- Paparazzi (Stuart Price Remix)

And it even has a cameo from True Blood's hunky Eric (Alexander Skarsgard). True Blood starts back up in 12 days- PS! Here's the trailer for the 2nd season of True Blood!

i think it was scripted...

Bruno (Sasha Cohen) teabagged Eminem last night on the MTV Movie Awards. I think it was staged. After reviewing the video- it seems to unlikely that MTV just happened to cut to the back of the audience where Bruno emerged as a flying ferry, and then just happened to cut to Eminem's face moments before Bruno landed on top of him. Both have things to promote. Nonetheless, it was hilarious.
