Weekend Preview [1/7-1/9]

I think DC is still recovering from a crazy NYE weekend as the number of events this weekend is a little down- in my opinion.  However, what the weekend outlook lacks in quantity in makes up for in quality- particularly on Friday night.

THURSDAY: hrmmmm.. not much going on tonite actually.  Duplex Diner is always a sure-fire bet for a Thursday nite though.  Also- the NCAA national championship is going on tonite.  I'm still not quite recovered from that Iowa win on Tuesday, and don't particularly like either team.  That said, it is a the final nite of a great college football season.  Go to a watch party (Nellie's is a guaranteed great place to watch the game) then head out.

FRIDAY: RAW @ Green Lantern

3 guys who got it going on in Gay DC nightlife, collectively known as Bil Van Jones, host this dirty dance party at none other than the Green Lantern.  I use this nite as one of my only excuses to go to this guilty pleasure bar and let loose.  Fun music and fun people- definitely check this nite out.

Here are some last minute NYE ideas that are not sold out, will be fun, and will be easy to get to even in bad weather.  Also- these are no gimmicks types of NYE events:

First Up: DJ TMY @ Vinoteca
I'll be spinning in the upstairs lounge from 11:00pm-3:00am at Vinoteca (11th and U Street NW) on NYE. I stopped by there today and the place is going to be really cool.  Tickets are normally $75- but if you book through me, I can get you a special price of $50 for full open bar, complimentary champagne all nite, and a midnight snack buffet!  There are also other tickets available for a full-course meal starting earlier in the nite if you're into that sort of thing.

Science Club is a really cool place to DJ and they have awesome vegetarian food.  Chris Burns- one of DC's best- is hosting a crew of DJs here this NYE.  The nite features a no cover or a $25 open bar special- not a bad deal!

Next Up: NYE @ Duplex Diner
I often like to retreat to the Duplex during big going out nites in DC- it's a guarantee for all locals, no lameness fun.  Aaron Riggins and I think my boy from Indy Drew Anderson will be DJing.  Not sure who else though, but ... SHhhh.. I may be making a surprise appearance here at some point in the nite- so look out for that too!

Last Up: SHIFT: The End is NYE @ Cobalt

This party is always super fun, the music is always fun to dance to, and tickets are only $10!  DJ MAJR (Mickey Adolphson and Aaron Riggins) will be heading this one up- at $10, this could easily be a party you start your night off at or end up at!

Duplex Diner's 11th Year Anniversary!

I'm really pumped to be DJ'ing Duplex Diner's 11th Year Anniversary. As many of you know- Eric gave me my start as a live DJ there, and the place simply feels like home to me. Robbie Bozick and I will be DJ'ing that night- Bozick on the early side, me on the late side- but we'll probably play some stuff together too. Should be fun. I know there's a lot going on that night w/ Shift and Blisspop- but if you're part of the Diner Family- you should definitely stop by at some point!

Busy Weekend Schedule

Now this is where things get a little tricky. I'm DJ'ing on a boat for a charity event and for the children. Summer Camp's stage extravaganza Crack is at Town, and Shift is at Cobalt. There are a number of ways to do this- if you're feeling charitable, come rock out on the boat with me. If you've never seen Crack before- GO! It's hilarious and suburbia themed this time. And Shift is definitely a good way to end the night. AND DJ Lil'el is guest DJ'ing at Cobalt- which i think will be cool

TONIGHT: The Inaugural DJ-TMY Pool Boy Party at The Capitol Skyline Hotel!!
It's at 10th and "I" streets SW (along South Capitol St)- a few short blocks from the Navy Yard Metro (or it's pretty close to the Capitol South Metro stop if you want orange/blue)
AFTER PARTY: It's also the first night of Poprocks at The Duplex Diner (18th and U)- my good buddies Robert Bozick and Chris Tassa will be spinning a delicious mix of dancey pop and grindy rock. Last Thursday of Every Month-- OOO and both are SINGLE! so am i for that matter..
FRIDAY NIGHT: Metromix is hosting AQUA back at the Capitol Skyline Hotel from 5-10PM. RSVP HERE to get $5 for the first week!

finally decided on a name

Yo- so I've settled on a DJ name finally.. after flirting w/ DJ Tommy, DJ T-CO (love this one, Sean-Ye), and others... I think I've decided to cop the whole The Management goes MGMT over-popular vowel reduction trend and take up DJ TMY... but mostly because it rhymes with TMI.

Oh, and DJ TMY is still a part of CB Radio (w/ Bradley Shurman) coming at you this Thursday night at The Diner after the Jeffrey Self show at Busboys and Poets on 14th St. If you want to go to Jeffrey Self's show called People I Slept With Who Never Called Me Back People- click here. He's a HILARIOUS blogger/comedian/wit-titian so definitely check out his blog and his act in DC.

Also in the works is a DJ'ing at a pool deck party at the Capitol Skyline Hotel all summer long- more details to be announced soon- but it's a sick spot right by Nats Stadium and will be a super fun happy hour/pool time night out on Thursdays.
